MARTIN FAGAN’S RETURN to athletics continues with the Mullingar Harriers athlete today winning the Terenure 5 Mile road race, beating Kenyan Freddy Keron Sittok in a sprint finish.
Fagan, who tested positive for the performance enhancing drug Erythropoietin (EPO) in 2012, returned from a two-year ban at the start of the year.
The 30-year admitted taking the substance in an effort to get back to full fitness ahead of the London Olympics and did not contest the findings of the positive test.
Yesterday, Fagan conducted an interview with The Irish Times about his return to competitive running, an article that prompted a furious reaction from fellow Irish athlete Ciarán Ó Lionáird who believes that positive drug tests should result in a life ban.
